For 20 years, Banderas Bay has hosted one of today's most exclusive competitions: the International Regatta. This year, on the regatta's 20th anniversary, the organizers for this non-profit event are going all out with amazing attractions like live music, nighttime parties and entertainment.
This competition has contestants race a certain distance along the bay in the best time possible, all without the assistance of a motor. Designed mainly for coastal vessels, yachts, and cruisers, the competition also allows for race boats and catamarans. This challenge is something only the most skilled and daring can achieve.
The tropical paradises of Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta have been the backdrop for this event year after year, where owners of boats of all sizes show off their navigating skills. The attractive climate and environmental conditions created within Banderas Bay offer the ideal setting for this kind of race, while the Vallarta Yacht Club (VYC) has hosted this event for 20 years to strengthen the popularity of the sport, especially for the younger generations.
The Vallarta Yacht Club is known worldwide as the venue for many important events, including the Vallarta Yacht Club San Diego Race, the MEXORC competition, the J24 World Championship and of course the Banderas Bay International Regatta, which is the club's main event and the largest regatta on Mexico's Pacific coast.
The club's home base is the yacht station at the Paradise Village Marina hotel, featuring an incredible spa where you can relax before or after the competition, along with the famous El Tigre golf course. This hotel joins up every year with the Vallarta Yacht Club to create this unforgettable regatta, bringing together numerous countries in a healthy competition of skill, knowledge and strength aligned with nature.
Competitors from Germany, Chile, Canada and even Japan have found Banderas Bay to be the ideal spot for a regatta, returning year after year to test their abilities and meet new aficionados of this fun sport, known for its strong social setting. In the last few years, the regatta has broken records in terms of the sheer number of registered boats and competitors, making it an even more attractive experience.
The 20th Banderas Bay International Regatta is sure to be more exciting than ever, set in one of Mexico's top tourist destinations. From March 20 - 24, 2012, Banderas Bay invites you to become a part of this incredible celebration where sports and nature come together.
