To take wine into your mouth is to savor a droplet of the river of human history.
-Clifton Fadiman Since the beginning of time, man has shown a fascination for elixirs that enliven the spirit and entice him to celebrate life through the senses and the communion with others.
With a popularity that spans centuries and a wide variety of uses in man's day-to-day life that range from the religious to the recreational, wine has become an art form of scientific proportions and the focus of study for enthusiasts and aficionados of this wonderful drink. Puerto Vallarta, being a very cosmopolitan and an internationally renowned destination because of its many culinary and cultural events, has also become the protagonist of a worldwide celebration that honors this spirituous beverage. The Vallarta Wine Fest began in 2007 with the purpose of promoting the "Culture of Wine" through a wonderful event that includes artistic and cultural aspects and also teaches visitors about the art of "pairing", which is the skill of choosing the perfect wine to enrich a gastronomic experience. In 2008, its second year, the festival will be held in Banderas Bay, from February 27th to March 1st, the participants will include the Mexican Association of Sommeliers, the Mexican Organization of Enophiles, various Mexican wineries, some restaurants and local Tourism Institutions. With a varied program of events, the festival's activities will include daily tastings at the participating restaurants, lectures, conferences, art and photography exhibitions, poetry readings, concerts ranging from contemporary jazz to medieval music, an interesting multimedia performance and a street event with live music, a dance floor and wine for sale at special prices.
